Reclaiming Connection in the LGBTQIA+ Community

Get Out didn’t start as a business idea — it started as a personal turning point.

After years of feeling disconnected — even in spaces that were meant to feel like home — I realised that something was missing. I wasn’t alone in that. More and more, I was hearing from people in our community who felt the same: tired of surface-level connections, exhausted by the scene, and unsure where to turn when they just needed real conversation, real friendship, or a reason to leave the house.

So I decided to build something different.

Not another dating app. Not another night out. But something that helps queer people find each other through shared purpose, shared experiences, and shared values. A platform that makes it easier to actually belong — whether you’re into team sports or art workshops, beach clean-ups or book clubs.

Since launching, Get Out has grown into more than just an idea — it's become a movement. We've built tools that connect people across states, spotlighted incredible queer initiatives, and created real moments of joy and connection along the way.

And we’re just getting started.

Whether you’ve just moved, are starting over, or simply want something more from your community — Get Out is here to help you feel less alone, and more like yourself.

We're building this together. And we'd love for you to be part of it.

  • You can find your people and feel more connected.

Get Out helps you discover social events, fitness groups, creative workshops, volunteering opportunities, and more. Whether you're looking to try something new or just show up as yourself, we make it easy to build real-life connection through shared interests, purpose, and joy.

Because community shouldn’t be something you have to search for alone.

  • We focus on proactive connection, helping people find friendships and support before reaching crisis point. While we’re not a mental health service, we work alongside existing organisations, always directing members to the right support when needed.

  • Get Out is for everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies. Whether you’re looking to make friends, get active, or find your next passion project, you belong here.

  • We’re not a dating app or a party promoter — we’re a community builder. Get Out is designed to foster real-world connection through shared interests, purpose, and belonging. Think of us as your guide to the LGBTQIA+ community: less swiping, more showing up.

  • Friendship is a big part of it — but so is meaning. Whether you’re chasing a fitness goal, giving back through volunteering, or exploring something creative, Get Out is about doing the things you love with people who get it.

  • Everything from queer hikes to drag trivia, meditation sessions to dance workshops, knitting circles to pride festivals. We spotlight both grassroots gatherings and major events — so there’s always something to suit your vibe. Check out the calendar here: https://lu.ma/GetOut

  • Right now, we’re focused on building community across Australia — with local events, regional meetups, and national initiatives. But the big dream? A global platform that makes loneliness optional, wherever you are.

"For a long time, I was chasing connection in all the wrong places — through drinking, dating apps, and trying to be whoever people needed me to be. But sobriety, movement, volunteering, and finding purpose taught me something simple: real connection doesn’t come from performance — it comes from presence. I started Get Out to build the kind of community I needed when I felt most alone — one where queer people can find each other through shared values, not just shared vices. Whether it’s through sport, art, service or just showing up, Get Out exists to help us find our people — and maybe, in the process, ourselves."
